Where are the Giardini Poseidon?

The Giardini Poseidon Terme are situated in Via Giovanni Mazzella in Forio d'Ischia, directly overlooking the beautiful Citara Beach. The park is set in a stunning natural landscape — six hectares of carefully maintained terraced gardens filled with Mediterranean plants and flowers, cascading down to a private beach on one of Ischia's most scenic bays.

The thermal waters at Poseidon are of volcanic origin and classified as salso-bromo-iodic and salso-sulphate-alkaline — mineral compositions with well-documented therapeutic properties recognised since ancient Roman times.

How to get to Giardini Poseidon from Hotel Bellavista Ischia

Hotel Bellavista Ischia is located in Panza, just 3 km from Giardini Poseidon — making it one of the closest hotels to the park. You can reach Poseidon in 5–10 minutes by scooter or car. We offer scooter and bicycle rental directly on site, so you can head there independently at any time of day.

A large guarded car park is available at the park entrance (€5/day for cars, €3/day for scooters). In high season, arriving early in the morning is recommended to secure a good spot.

Getting to Giardini Poseidon by public transport

If you prefer not to drive, Poseidon is also well connected by bus:

  • Bus line 2 from Ischia Porto runs towards Forio and stops at the "Citara – Giardini Poseidon" stop, about 100 metres from the entrance — the simplest option from the port.
  • Bus line 193 stops close to Hotel Bellavista and reaches Citara Bay in around 10 minutes.
  • Alternatively, lines 171 or 197 with a change at Cuotto and then line 172 also connect to the park. Always check current timetables at the stop or via official local transport channels.

What to do at Giardini Poseidon Ischia

A day at Giardini Poseidon offers far more than just a swim in warm water. Here is what you can experience across the park's six hectares:

20+ thermal pools

The heart of the park is its collection of more than 20 thermal pools, each with a different temperature (ranging from 16°C to 40°C) and different mineral composition. You can move freely between pools throughout the day, finding the temperature and therapeutic properties that suit you best. Water jets, whirlpools and underwater massage stations are integrated into several pools.

Natural steam grotto

One of Poseidon's most atmospheric features is its natural steam grotto — a cave carved into the rock in the ancient Greco-Roman tradition, where warm mineral vapour envelops you in a deeply relaxing sauna experience.

Japanese bath and Kneipp therapy

The Japanese soaking tub features a pebble floor path designed to stimulate leg circulation as you walk through it. The Kneipp pools alternate between hot (40°C) and cold (15°C) water — a classic hydrotherapy technique known to boost circulation and invigorate the body.

Private beach on Citara Bay

Poseidon's private beach gives guests direct access to the turquoise waters of Citara Bay — one of the most beautiful bays on the island. Sun loungers and umbrellas are included in the entrance fee (subject to availability). The beach is open from May to September.

Medical and wellness centre

The park's 500 m² health centre offers a full range of medical thermal treatments, physiotherapy, inhalation therapies, aesthetic treatments, and wellness massages. A team of medical professionals is on hand to advise on the most beneficial treatments for your specific health needs. Consultations are especially recommended for guests with cardiovascular, rheumatic, orthopaedic or respiratory conditions.

Restaurants and the Wine Grotto

Three on-site dining options serve everything from light snacks to full Mediterranean meals. The highlight is the Grotta del Vino — a wine bar carved entirely into tufa rock, with stunning sea views and a menu of local Ischian wines, cheeses and charcuterie. Il Fauno restaurant offers hot pasta dishes and grilled fish for a heartier meal.

Gardens and amphitheatre

Walking between pools, you pass through beautifully maintained Mediterranean gardens tended by specialist horticulturists — a mix of natural flora and cultivated plants that create a constantly changing palette of colours throughout the season. A large open-air amphitheatre overlooking the sea provides a spectacular viewpoint and occasional event space.

Therapeutic benefits of Poseidon's thermal waters

The mineral-rich hyperthermal waters of Giardini Poseidon are medically indicated for a wide range of conditions:

  • Musculoskeletal: arthritis, arthrosis, rheumatism, tendinopathies, post-traumatic rehabilitation
  • Respiratory: chronic cough, bronchial conditions (inhalation therapies available)
  • Dermatological: psoriasis, eczema, acne, neurodermatitis
  • Circulatory: phlebitis, circulation disorders, leg swelling
  • General wellness: anti-stress, anti-ageing, skin regeneration

The park's medical team is available for consultations and personalised treatment plans. Thermal bathing is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy — always consult the on-site medical staff if in doubt.

Is Giardini Poseidon suitable for children?

Yes — the park is well set up for families. Children under 12 are not permitted in the thermal pools for medical reasons (high temperatures can affect the developing cardiovascular system), but they have access to three heated seawater pools and all the park's beaches. Children aged 0–3 enter for free; ages 4–11 receive a 50% discount.

Is Giardini Poseidon accessible for guests with reduced mobility?

Yes. The park is designed to be accessible for wheelchair users, with ramp access throughout and several pools equipped with electric lifts for assisted entry into the water. An internal electric vehicle service is available to help guests with mobility difficulties move between areas of the park.

Giardini Poseidon or Sorgeto Bay?

Both are unmissable thermal experiences on Ischia — but they are completely different. Poseidon is an organised full-day resort with every comfort included. Sorgeto Bay is a wild, free natural cove where volcanic springs flow directly into the sea — no facilities, no entrance fee, open year-round including at night.

Staying at Hotel Bellavista Ischia in Panza, you can experience both: Sorgeto Bay is a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and Poseidon is 3 km away by scooter. We also have our own private natural thermal pool in the hotel garden — so you can enjoy three different thermal experiences in a single stay.
