Day 1 — The southern coast
Sant'Angelo: Ischia's most picturesque village
Start your weekend in Sant'Angelo, the most charming village on the island. This ancient fishing hamlet clings to the southern tip of Ischia, connected to a rocky islet by a narrow sandy strip. Cars are banned — only pedestrians and the occasional electric cart navigate its narrow lanes, colourful houses and tiny harbour.
Take your time wandering the waterfront, browse the small boutiques, and settle into one of the seafront bars for an aperitivo as the afternoon light turns golden. It's one of those places that's impossible to rush through — and you shouldn't try.
Sorgeto Bay: volcanic hot springs in the sea
After Sant'Angelo, head to Sorgeto Bay — just 15 minutes from Hotel Bellavista and one of the most extraordinary natural experiences on the island. Here, a volcanic spring at 90°C flows directly into the sea, creating natural rock pools where hot and cold water mix to the perfect temperature.
There's no sand — just smooth rocks and thermal pools open year-round, completely free of charge. If you can find volcanic mud on the rocks nearby, apply it to your skin as a natural face and body mask — the effects are remarkable. Evening bathing under the stars is one of the signature Ischia experiences.
Forio: the village of the green flash
For the evening, head to Forio — about 15 minutes from Panza by bus or scooter. Walk the main corso lined with craft shops and souvenir stalls, then follow the path to the Chiesa del Soccorso, a whitewashed church dramatically perched on a promontory three-quarters surrounded by sea.
This is the best sunset viewpoint on the island. On rare, perfectly clear evenings you might witness the famous green flash — an optical phenomenon that appears for a split second as the last sliver of sun drops below the horizon. Whether you see it or not, the view is unforgettable.
After sunset, the harbour area comes alive with restaurants and bars — perfect for a leisurely dinner to round off the day.
Day 2 — Beaches, thermal springs and history
Maronti Beach & the Fumarole
Start day two at Maronti Beach — at nearly 2 km long, it's the largest beach on Ischia. Settle in early before the crowds arrive, then at lunchtime seek out the area known as the Fumarole at the eastern end of the beach.
Here, volcanic steam rises from vents beneath the hot sand — and some beach bars use this natural heat to cook food directly in the sand. Try eggs, potatoes or corn cooked by the earth itself: it's one of the most unique culinary experiences in Italy, and not to be missed.
A small water taxi runs between Sorgeto and Maronti every 20 minutes, taking about 10 minutes for just a few euros — a scenic and practical way to connect the two stops.
Cavascura: Ischia's ancient Roman thermal springs
From the Fumarole end of Maronti, a short walk inland brings you to Terme di Cavascura — one of the oldest thermal establishments on Ischia, with origins dating back to Roman times. The springs are set in a dramatic narrow gorge carved by the hot water itself, with steam rising from the rock walls. A visit here feels genuinely ancient, completely unlike the modern thermal parks.
Ischia Porto & Aragonese Castle: the farewell
On departure day, make time for Ischia Porto and the neighbouring historic district of Ischia Ponte. The Aragonese Castle — a fortress on a volcanic rock connected to the island by a stone bridge — is one of Ischia's most iconic landmarks and worth a visit if time allows.
Before boarding your ferry, treat yourself to a final stop at Bar Calise, one of the island's most beloved pasticcerie. Order a warm cornetto, a babà alla panna, or the legendary pasta Epomeo — a puff pastry filled with cream and wild strawberries. The perfect farewell to the island.
