3 days in Ischia: how to make the most of your time
Ischia has been attracting visitors from around the world for centuries, and with good reason. The island packs an extraordinary variety of landscapes, culture, food and wellness into a relatively small area. The challenge is not finding things to do — it is choosing which ones to fit into a short stay.
This 3-day itinerary is designed to give you a balanced mix of the island's highlights, from the most scenic villages and beaches to its famous thermal parks and best viewpoints. It is based on our experience at Hotel Bellavista Ischia, located in Panza (Forio) — a quiet and well-connected base for exploring the southern and western sides of the island.
Day 1 — Sant'Angelo, Sorgeto Bay and the southern coast
Start your first day with the most iconic village on the island: Sant'Angelo. This tiny, car-free fishing village sits on a small peninsula and is full of colourful houses, narrow lanes, boutiques and waterfront restaurants. Arrive in the morning before the day-trippers and take your time exploring the piazzetta and the views from the Madonella terrace above the village.
In the afternoon, head to Sorgeto Bay, one of Ischia's most unique attractions. Hot thermal water flows directly into the sea here, creating natural pools where you can bathe year-round. Access is via a stairway of around 200 steps — worth the effort for the experience. From Hotel Bellavista in Panza, Sorgeto is just a short walk away.
For dinner, try the local speciality: coniglio all'ischitana (Ischia-style rabbit), a dish rooted in centuries of island tradition.
Day 2 — Aragonese Castle, Ischia Ponte and a beach
Dedicate your second day to the island's most famous landmark: the Aragonese Castle. This ancient fortress sits on a rocky islet connected to the main island by a stone bridge. Inside you will find the remains of a cathedral, a convent, panoramic terraces and exhibitions. The views from the top are breathtaking.
After the castle, explore the charming streets of Ischia Ponte, one of the island's oldest and most atmospheric neighbourhoods, with traditional houses, ceramics shops and waterfront cafés.
In the afternoon, choose a beach for some relaxation. Maronti Beach is one of the longest on the island (about 3 km) and offers a mix of free areas and equipped lidos. Alternatively, the smaller Cava Grado beach near Sant'Angelo offers a quieter experience.
Day 3 — Mount Epomeo or a thermal park, then sunset in Forio
Your third day offers a choice depending on your mood: an active morning on Mount Epomeo or a full day of relaxation at one of the island's great thermal parks.
Option A — Mount Epomeo: the island's highest peak (789 m) rewards hikers with one of the finest panoramas in the Gulf of Naples. The main trail starts from Fontana and takes about 45 minutes to reach the summit. On a clear day you can see Capri, Procida and the Amalfi Coast.
Option B — Thermal park: if you prefer a wellness day, choose between Giardini Poseidon in Citara Bay (over 20 pools) or Negombo in the bay of San Montano (a beautiful combination of gardens, pools and sea). For ticket prices and tips, see our Poseidon prices guide.
End your trip with a walk through Forio and a sunset aperitivo at one of the bars overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea — a perfect way to close three days on the island.
Ravino Gardens — a botanical detour
If you have a spare hour on any of your three days, Ravino Gardens in Forio is well worth a visit. It houses one of Europe's largest collections of cacti and succulents, set in a peaceful Mediterranean landscape with sea views and free-roaming peacocks.

Frequently asked questions — Ischia in 3 days
What is the best itinerary for 3 days in Ischia?
A well-balanced plan is: Day 1 Sant'Angelo and Sorgeto Bay, Day 2 Aragonese Castle and a beach, Day 3 Mount Epomeo or a thermal park followed by sunset in Forio.
Is it better to stay in Forio or Ischia Porto?
Forio and Panza are ideal for Sant'Angelo, Sorgeto and the Poseidon thermal park. Ischia Porto is more central and convenient for the Aragonese Castle area. With public buses, both work well for a 3-day stay.
What are the must-see places in Ischia?
The Aragonese Castle, Sant'Angelo, Sorgeto Bay, Mount Epomeo and at least one thermal park (Poseidon or Negombo) are the most popular experiences.
Do I need a car to visit Ischia in 3 days?
Not necessarily. Buses and taxis cover the island well. A car offers more freedom but can be less practical in high season due to traffic and limited parking.
When is the best time to visit Ischia?
April to June and September to October offer pleasant weather with fewer crowds. July and August are busier — booking ferries and accommodation in advance is recommended.
What can you do in Ischia on a rainy day?
Thermal parks and wellness, cultural visits at the Aragonese Castle, local food experiences and wine tastings — Ischia has plenty to offer even when the weather is unsettled.
